Welcome To The Andover Journal

I thought this was worth watching..Hope you do too.

Another Night Before Christmas.......

Twas the night before Christmas
And I was uptight.
There WAS something missing.
Felt something's not right.

The holiday fluff was hung up with care.
Retailers were glad. For sales goals were there.
I with my bottle. Wife under stress.
Guests were obnoxious. A fine Christmas mess.

With Christmas depression, I happen to spy.
A dusty old Bible. Without knowing why.
Picked up the old book and turned to the story.
Back to the time, of Christmas glory.

The shepherds were watching their sheep in the night.
And LO! Up above a WONDERFUL sight.
The Angels were singing in GLORIOUS praise.
A babe in a manger, Who'll from sin mankind raise.

And up in the sky. Beholding afar.
O'er mother and babe, a BRIGHT shining star.
Leaving their flocks, to see that night.
Our tiny Savior, Who'll set evil to flight.

With tears in my eyes, I remembered the reason.
This tiny child, was the cause for the season.
I called out through the house. And gathered my clan.
And read from the Bible, so they'd understand.

We sang that night. We worshiped the King.
And we felt the JOY, of what Christmas brings.
We drew closer together. Filled with His Light.
Merry Christmas to all. To all a Good Night.

Dec. 25th, 2011- "Merry Christmas"

We did have a white Christmas after all. We received about 2-3 inches of snow 2 days before Christmas. Along with some pretty cold weather just in time for Christmas.

December 18th, 2011

Well we had snow for Halloween and Thanksgiving, but it looks like it's gonna be a brown Christmas. What snow we had has gone due to warm weather and rain. The weather has turned cold, but the weather forecast doesn't show any real measureable snowfall between now and Christmas Day.

Dec. 10th, 2011

Well another Hunting Season has come and gone. This November was the warmest November on record and proved to be very challenging as the deer really didn't move much during the day. I has my chances though, but same old story- couldn't see the horns until it was too late to get a shot off.

Another Holiday Storm hits Andover Thanksgiving Eve

Almost a foot of snow fell today the day before Thanksgiving. Welcomed by hunters and skiers alike.

Happy Halloween 2011

About 4-5 inches of snow fell early morning on Halloween.

Bundle Up!

Roxbury Windmills.

Entrance to Windmill Farm in Roxbury.

August 2011 The Windmills are arriving.

Note: Is There Something Wrong With This Picture? Hard to believe that with all the people who need jobs in our country, if the information I have received is correct, all these parts for these windmills are coming from overseas. Not manufactured here in the good old USA. WHY CAN'T WE MAKE THESE HERE?!!!

Trucks loaded with parts to the windmills for the Roxbury Windmill Site have been rolling through Andover. The picture above is just 1 piece of the tower of a windmill. You can get an idea of how huge these windmills must be.

Trying to maneuver the large windmill blade around the corner in uptown Andover.

August 2011  Hurricane Irene arrives.

Crockett Bridge in North Andover.

This is on the flats down by the green bridge and "Big Rock". Water has flooded the fields on both sides of the road.

Andover Covered Bridge Road this is just a section of it as many roads were closed off and not usable. Flooding was even worse further up this road and road washed away in places.

Heavy rains and somewhat heavy winds washed out roads, washed away bridges, and lengthy power outages were all part of the problems experienced by people in the path of Hurricane Irene. Our neighbor community Rumford was one of the worst recipients of damage. We were without power for a day and a half. Some other communities had power outages for several days.

August 2011 "Contractor's Day" Andover School

I copied this article from the Bethel Citizen. There was a great turnout for "Contractors Day" at the Andover Elementary School and a lot of work was accomplished to some extent, refurbish if you will, the old school that has given Andover so many good years educating kids. In a time when our country's economy is struggling. it's these kind of efforts that make all the difference. Thankfully Andover has always had a lot of "Good Hearted" "Strong Back" people who are willing to chip in when things need to get done.

Below is a list of many of the volunteers & contributors who contributed to this effort.

I'm not sure if all the volunteers & contributors names made it on this list, if not let me apologize in advance.  If anyone got overlooked, just let me know I will be glad to add their name to this list.

August 2011

Junior Poor Received the Silver Start earlier this year for his service in World War II. It was presented to him in a ceremony at the Rumford American Legion, shown above with his daughter Paula. Also shown above is him riding in a military vehicle at this years  Olde Home Days Parade held recently.

How do we change the World? 1 Act of Random Kindness.

If you haven't had a chance to read this story of a little 9 year old girl and her birthday wish, to raise money for the people in African Villages that have no clean water, you should take a minute and read it. Here is the link: Click HERE!

I'm amazed at what a kind hearted little 9 year old girl can accomplish when she's doing it for the right reasons, and how little good a Congress full of highly educated, over paid, men and women can get done with all the money we give them and their full time job is to do what's good for  the People.

I honestly wonder what would happen if we took our young children and put them in charge of Congress for a month. Why is it that I think they might get more good done in that 1 month than our Congress gets done in a year. OK I'll get off my soapbox.

August 5th, 6th, & 7th 2011

Olde Home Days 2011

Here are a few pictures from this years Olde Home Days. See if you recognize anyone in these pictures. A beautiful day for the events.

People lined up along Main Street to watch the parade.

Mini Fair grounds and rides for us kids.

The "Best of Show" Grand Price photo winner Johnny Walker with his colorful landscape picture that I believe was taken in Bryant Pond. Click on the picture for larger picture of the photo.

People lining up around the track for one of my favorites..the start of the annual Lawn Tractor Races. This is a really fun event to watch and I'm sure to participate in. It just needs to be sped up somehow. It is something you need to be prepared for as it takes several hours from start to finish, I think I got there a little early for the time trials and by the time the last race was over I had been there about 4 hours. So sunscreen and plenty of liquids to drink as well as a comfortable chair are all good ideas.

Time trials. I thought it was a good suggestion that in the future they have the time trials done earlier in the day, maybe during the tractor pull, to shorten the amount of time that people have to wait for the actual races to start. I saw a lot of people give up and leave because it takes so long to get to the actual racing.

Oh Oh someone has taken the turn too fast and gone over the tires.

They are Ready....

And they're off...

And The Winner leaving everyone else in the dust!
